While we do not typically deal in poetry, we've just been alerted to the fact that one of our supporters, Adam Donaldson Powell, and his co-author Albert Russo, received a 2009 National Indie Excellence Award last month, in the classification Gay/Lesbian Non-Fiction, for Gaytude: A poetic journey around the world. Besides interviews with each author (linked above), read a review of the book, by Santosh Kumar, and several excerpted poems, at Adam's Web site. Congratulations, guys!

According to an article in the Manchester (UK) Guardian, a so-called Christian group in Wisconsin has brought a suit against the city of West Bend and the West Bend Community Memorial Library for damages caused by the YA novel, Baby Be-Bop, (by Francesca Lia Block, 1997) in which a boy is beaten by a homophobic gang.
